Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

There are several factors that affect the metabolism of a person, such as the amount of muscle tissue, the frequency of meal an consumes, genetics, stress levels, personal diet and activity levels. Metabolism slows done for the following reasons: loss of muscle due to physical activity is not enough, the tendency of the body to cannibalize its own tissue because there is not enough food to sustain energy, and decreased physical activity that comes naturally with old age.

Here are several ways to launch your body  metabolism:

  • Building  lean, mean body mass. It is natural that metabolism decreases with age, but it is possible to counter the effects. The amount of muscle a person has a very strong factor in the ability to burn calories and shed fat. So it goes without saying that  exercise is essential. Improve your strength and resistance by working out at least twice a week, preferably with weights. Do easy exercises in between workouts. Simple tasks such as walking the dog and using the stairs instead of the elevator can already take off calories. The key is to match the amount of food to the amount of activity is.
  • Eat breakfast. Many people ignore the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Curiously, those who eat breakfast are thinner than those who do not. Metabolism can slow down considerably if breakfast is taken at mid-morning or if we wait until the afternoon to eat.
  • Avoid sugar. Sugar enables the body to store fat. It is recommended that a person eats food that help to maintain the same level of blood sugar. In addition, progressive exercising  2-3 times a week should be done to stabilize blood sugar.
  • Eat spicy foods. Kitchen with hot peppers can increase metabolism.
  • Sleep more. Research suggests it is more risky for people who do not get enough sleep to gain weight. Also, muscles are regenerated during the last two hours of sleep.
  • Increase water intake. Water flushes out the toxins that are produced when the body burns fat. The majority of bodily functions in the water, and lack of water causes the body system operations to reduce its speed, stress and unnecessary product.
  • Eat smaller meals. It is advisable to consume 4 to 6 small meals that are timed 2 to 3 hours.
  • Never skip meals. People tend to skip meals to lose weight, which is a serious mistake because it slows down the metabolism.
  • Plan your meals in detail. Always prepare the right amount of food consumed at the designated intervals. Do not make the mistake of eating meals in sporadic patterns.
  • Avoid the stress! Stress, whether physical or emotional, triggers the release of a steroid called cortisol, which decreases metabolism. Also, people tend to eat excessively when stressed.
  • Drink  green tea. It can be used as a substitute for coffee. Tea has the ability to stimulate metabolism, and unlike coffee, it has no side effects when too much consumption.
  • Have more energy foods in the diet, such as fruits and vegetables, beans and whole grains.

A person must be aware that eating well and working, it’s not just a passing fancy, but a lifestyle. Follow these tips and see an improved metabolism!
